Northwest 38, Pittsburg State 17

Northwest Missouri State reeled off 28-unanswered points in the first half to open a 28-7 lead over Pittsburg State, and went on to win 38-17 at Arrowhead Stadium.

The Bearcats (6-0) leaned heavily on the legs of quarterback Braden Wright, as the sophomore picked up a career-high 172 yards on the ground.

Wright set up the first Northwest touchdown with a 48-yard run down to the Pitt State six yard line. The 'Cats scored one play later on a shovel pass from Wright to Marqus Andrews.

The starting quarterback also sealed the win with a 48-yard touchdown run with 1:23 remaining in the game.

Andrews also scored the second touchdown of the day for Northwest on a 20-yard reception from Mike Hohensee.

Hohensee and Andrews connected again midway through the second quarter as the Bearcats faced a fourth and seven from the Pitt 35 yard line. Northwest lined up for a Parker Sampson field goal, then motioned to a different formation. The Gorillas left the tight end wide open down the seam, and Hohensee hit him for the score.

Andrews finished the day with 3 receptions for 61 yards and 3 touchdowns. He also carried the ball once for eight yards.

Northwest also found the end zone on a reverse handoff that Imoni Donadelle took 59 yards for the score.

Pittsburg State, a team that averaged more than 200 rushing yards per game, totaled just 87 yards on the ground against Northwest. The Bearcat defense also sacked Gorilla quarterbacks three times, one apiece for Andy Hessler, Jackson Barnes and Spencer Phillips.

Northwest is on the road next Saturday for a 2pm kickoff against Nebraska Kearney.
